Herkunft: 

Massaranduba kommt aus den Wäldern im Amazonasgebiet von Brasilien . Der große Stamm hat eine gerade, zylindrische Form und einen Durchmesser von bis zu 180 cm; meist sind die Bäume aber dünner.

Holz-Optik: 

Das Kernholz ist fleischfarben bis rötlich braun. Bei Lichteinwirkung dunkelt es leicht zu Rot oder Violettbraun nach. Das 3 bis 5 cm breite Splintholz ist leicht vom Kernholz zu unterscheiden. Die Maserung ist gerade und bisweilen wellig. Wechseldrehwuchs kann vorkommen. Die Textur ist fein.

Bearbeitungseigenschaften: 

Trotz seiner hohen Dichte geht die maschinelle Bearbeitung des Holzes gut und erzeugt glatte Oberflächen. Vorbohren zum Verschrauben wird empfohlen. Die Verleimung geht gut, aber es liegen erst wenige Erfahrungen vor. Das Holz trocknet langsam und neigt zur Rissbildung und zum Verbiegen. Bei der Lufttrocknung muss das Holz vor Wettereinflüssen geschützt werden, damit sich keine Risse bilden.

Dauerhaftigkeit: 

Klasse 1-2: Dauerhaft bis sehr dauerhaft (15 bis 25 Jahre und mehr).
